Launched in 1990, MIPIM is the world’s premier annual, real estate exhibition, conference and networking event, and took place in Cannes, France, on 6-9 March 2012. Attendance reached 19,300 delegates from 83 countries, including 4,200 investors, making MIPIM the largest gathering of real estate investors in the world.
2012 saw delegates concentrating their attention on quality, low-risk investment opportunities, urban development and discussion about how the tight debt financing situation is impacting the European market.
Delegate and media attention was firmly fixed on Germany, MIPIM 2012’s Country of Honour and a packed keynote address heard former German Foreign Minister, Josckha Fischer warning against any move for countries to withdraw from the euro.
Qatar is currently one of the most active international real estate markets with some €30 billion worth of projects under construction in 2012. But at MIPIM, a large Qatari delegation stressed the Gulf state’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
Closing proceedings, the MIPIM team announced that the 2013 Country of Honour would be Turkey – a 2013 edition which includes Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, among the delegates.
